Notes: An early publicity item for this firm, with excellent photos of American gunboats, tugs, Nile passenger steamers etc.. The Babcock & Wilcox firm was founded in New Jersey in 1867, when it patented its first water tube boiler design. A sales office was opened in Glasgow in 1881 and the main UK works was at Renfrew. The first British-built boiler design by the Company was completed on Clydeside in 1885.
